River of Hope Camden 2023

The River of Hope 2023 coincided with Open House London which ran from Wednesday 6th to Sunday 17th September with our main celebration day on Saturday 9th September.

There were venues across Camden, London, UK and across the high seas in Wairarapa, Aotearoa, New Zealand, with whom we are twinned (see below for our twinning project)

We are grateful to the children, the tamariki, of Featherston School. South Wairarapa for their thoughts in responding to the invitation: As I sat silent and still, I wondered what I might become. Their collective writing acted as a catalyst for artist Jenny Keate who produced the beautiful painting Silent and Still which graces our flyer opposite. For more of Jenny’s work with the Ruamahanga Mauri Oho project see here

What happens on the banks of the River of Hope?

Each partner organisation offered different things: workshops, refreshments, bouncy castles, invitations to their space and conversations about their work. We invited people to move like seeds between venues: settling in our green and wild spaces.

Resident artist and illustrator, Chrissie Nicholls created last year’s and this year’s beautiful map. Copies are still available to be collected from The Listening Space, just drop us an email. This becomes your passport to the River of Hope. There are activities, stories and invitations in your passport so join us in creating a flowing river of hope. Let us make our local area a happy and healthy place to flourish and grow.
