We grow herbs and food in the garden, from verbena which we add to our tea to tomatoes that we use in salads.

Dr. J’s Coconut and Tomato Dahl
I have cooked up large vats of this nutritious and warming dahl for many community events. I’m often asked for the recipe so it’s definitely one for sharing. It is vegetarian/ vegan (if you omit or use a plant based yoghurt for topping) and gluten free so can be enjoyed by all. I like the fact that it is not afraid to borrow and mix flavours from different cuisines- a bit like our community!
You can personalise it by choosing your own toppings.
Make your own Madras Curry Powder
There are thousands of recipes for Madras curry powder, you can purchase ready mixed spice powders but there is more flavour (and satisfaction) if you make your own. How about sharing spices or ingredients which may be harder to find? Or making spice mixes in a larger batch and sharing with friends and family together with your own toppings.

Template recipe for a hearty salad bowl- or our veggie pick and mix
We have a collection point at the practice for Kentish Town Veg Box.
We love being surprised by what’s in the bag and often roast up vegetables as the basis for hearty salads and lunch boxes

Tigg’s simple quick nutty loaf
My grandmother used to always bake her own bread.
It was brown and solid. We used to joke that it would work just as well as a brick!
Years later I came across a Delia Smith recipe that is as close as I’ve ever got to the wonderful taste and texture of my grandmother’s loaf. Delia’s recipe is here.
I’m not sure where my recipe originated, whether I changed it or found it in an old recipe book (in which case it was probably Delia again!)
It’s been stuck on the inside of my kitchen cupboard for easy reference for about 20 years now.
It’s particularly good when you’re watching your bread intake as it makes nice thin slices.
